7 Amazing Facts about Dracorex Hogwartsia the Harry potter dinosaur - Animalassic

1. Dracorex's full name means"Dragon king of Hogwarts" Dracorex was a species of Pachycephalosaurid dinosaur which lived in Asia and North America during the late Cretaceous period.During 2006, Dr. Bakker name it Dracorexis Hogwartsia, meaning "Dragon king of Hogwarts" as a tribute to J. k.rowlings, the author of Harry Potter novels and because of its resemblance to fairytale dragons.

1. Dracorex's full name means"Dragon king of Hogwarts"



Dracorex was a species of  Pachycephalosaurid dinosaur which lived in Asia and North America during the late Cretaceous period.During 2006, Dr. Bakker name it Dracorexis Hogwartsia, meaning "Dragon king of Hogwarts" as a tribute to J. k.rowlings, the author of Harry Potter novels and because of its resemblance to fairytale dragons.

2. Dracorex stood as tall as an Emperor penguin



Dracorex was roughly the same height as an emperor penguin, measuring up to 1.20 m, but weighed nearly twice as much as the penguin, weighing approximately 46kg (E.penguins weight 23 kg on average).

3. It was possibly an Omnivore



Dracorex had extremely sharp, saw-like teeth, indicating that, unlike other marginocephalians, it was an omnivore and could eat both plants and meat. 

4The dinosaur could run as fast as a Leopard



Due to its small size in comparison to other pachycephalosaurid dinosaurs, dracorex was an excellent runner, with a running speed of 56km/hr, which is roughly same to the running speed of an African leopard.

5. The naming of Dracorex was the most unexpected honour to J. K. Rowlings



knowing about the naming of Dracorex Hogwartsia she stated:

" The naming of Dracorex hogwartsia is easily the most unexpected honor to have come my way since the publication of the Harry Potter books! I am absolutely thrilled to think that Hogwarts has made a small claw mark upon the fascinating world of dinosaurs. I happen to know more on the subject of paleontology than many might credit, because my eldest daughter was Utahraptor-obsessed, and I am now living with a passionate Tyrannosaurus rex-lover, aged three. My credibility has soared within my science-loving family, and I am very much looking forward to reading Dr. Bakker and his colleague’s paper describing “my” dinosaur, which I can’t help visualizing as a slightly less pyromaniac Hungarian Horntail.”

7. Dracorex probably never have existed 



Here's a heart breaking fact: Dracorex probably have never existed rather, the creature we know as dracorex may have been a juvenile pachcephalosaurus according to the dinosaur expert Mark B. Goodwin. He states that "Juveniles and adults of these dinosaurs look very, very different from adults, and literally may resemble a different species,".
